Cyber crimes on the rise in Pakistan - gulf-times.com - 06 Dec 2010

Several high-profile cases involving cyber crimes, including the one in which the Supreme Court website was hacked, have failed to serve as eye-opener for decision makers in Pakistan, with cyber criminals operating without fear of prosecution after lapse in late 2009 of an ordinance. Official sources here say that cyber crimes are on the rise, as the cyber crime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been turned into a toothless body in the absence of the law. The sources said the wing had closed thousands of cases because it did not have the mandate to pursue them. Those who suffered at the hands of the criminals included Zafar Hasan Raja, a Grade 20 officer of the Ministry of Finance, who was lured into becoming part of a “goldmine scheme” to get huge sums in return for investment
