Con couples caught - DNA - 1 Jun 2009

Ahmedabad: Newly formed Cyber Crime Cell of city Crime Branch has nabbed a duo from Punjab on May 31 morning from Ahmedabad Airport, for using duplicate credit card for purchasing gold of Rs16,19,500.Jasmitsingh Saluja, 21, and his wife Amandeepkaur both the residents of Ludhiana, Punjab had used duplicate credit card of Labhshankar Joshi - a resident of Mumbai to make purchase of the gold. The couple had bought gold jewelry by swapping duplicate credit card from Tanishq showroom at Shivranjani Cross Roads on May 30. The Crime Branch inspector K K Patel had caught the couple with his staff following the instructions of Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhay Chudasama and Assistant Commissioner of Police of Cyber Crime Cell Usha Rada. from Ahmedabad Airport while trying to escape from the city after committing fraud

Ronesh Rauth, Area Manager of City Bank had informed the Crime Branch officials about the wrong purchase of gold jewelry was made from Tanishq showroom by swapping the credit card of Mumbai based Labhshankar Joshi on Saturday. The Crime Branch officials investigated at the showroom and the bank and they found out this bunty aur babli from Punjab.

After frisking the duo the officials recovered bogus PAN card, Voter's I-Card and Driving License of Labhshankar Joshi, four mobile phones, air tickets and 1 kg of gold worth Rs. 16,19,500 and cash of Rs. 70,900.

Usha Rada, ACP Cyber Crime Cell, Crime Branch said, "Jasmitsingh Saluja had studied till SY B A and did love marriage with Amadeepkaur.Saluja had initially started his own business of finance, but to make fast money he initially tried out some credit card fraud at small level and got success in it. So he and his wife got into the crime. We have also got to know that they had swapped credit card of 2-3 different people in North India in Mumbai and have purchased the gold of worth Rs 15 lakh. They have swapped nearly 41 credit cards of the residents of Delhi and North India and done fraud of Rs. 86 lakh there. The total amount of fraud is nearly Rs. 1.14 Crore."

Talking about the modus operandi Rada said, "The couple used to find out the credit card number of customers from the banks and they used to create bogus identity proofs like PAN Card, Voter's I-Card and Driving License from it. After that they used to contact banks as the customer to issue the new credit card because of the breakage in the old card and they also used to ask to change the address based on the bogus PAN card. After getting the new credit card they were swapping these card in the metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad for purchasing gold and other stuff. They used to fly from one city to another to make purchase and returned to their place.

It is significant that the newly formed cyber crime cell has nabbed five people till now. It has cracked the cyber crime fraud cases of Rs. 28 lakh from 10 people from Ahmedabad and other cities.
