Asian couple accused of New Zealand bank fraud may now be in Hong Kong - Newkerela.com - 22 May 2009

Wellington, May 22 : Police of New Zealand's Rotorua area, who are investigating a Westpac bank fraud, have said that the Asian couple involved, may have moved from China to neighbouring Hong Kong.

The Dominion Post quoted Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey of Rotorua CIB as saying that the police and Westpac were investigating the "inappropriate operation" of a Rotorua business account where money had been withdrawn.

He claimed that police were "vigorously" attempting to get back 3.8 million New Zealand dollars taken from the account.

Westpac have not publicly identified the account holder, said today the customer in question had in place a temporary overdraft facility with a limit up to 100,000 dollars.

The money was believed to be in the account on or about May 5 but it was only on Wednesday this week that police publicly said they were investigating.

The unnamed couple, believed to be Korean Leo Gao and his Kiwi girlfriend Kara Young, are yet to be traced.
