Police bust biggest counterfeit credit card scam - sabcnews.com - 12 Nov 08

Two Ghanaian nationals have been arrested in what police describe as one of the biggest busts in the manufacture of counterfeit credit cards in recent years.

Johannesburg police acted on a tip-off and arrested the men at a storage facility in Honeydew this afternoon. Equipment used to manufacture the cards, foreign banking details and stacks of cell phone starter packs were found on the premises. The details of thousands of legitimate credit card holders were stolen and duplicated on the counterfeit cards. Police believe hotels and restaurants were targeted to steal the information.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says they believe this is widespread and these suspects are targeting people who are travelling between South Africa and other foreign countries.
