Courier firm employee held for credit card fraud - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - 11 Nov 08

CHENNAI: The suburban police on Monday apprehended a courier service employee and three of his accomplices at Adambakkam for fraudulently using another person’s credit card and purchasing Rs 2.7 lakh worth of goods using the card. Pradeep Kumar, a part-time employee of Xpress IT Logistics was caught after his supervisor filed a complaint stating that he misused a credit card sent by a private bank through the courier service.

Pradeep Kumar, a student of New College, Chennai, along with Mohammed Nishat, Rizwan Ahmad and Basheer Ahmad had fraudulently used the credit card, that was addressed to Lakshmi Devi, a resident of Adambakkam.

Using the card, the four men purchased gold jewels worth Rs 1.6 lakh at GRT gold house in T Nagar. Later, they withdrew Rs 1.1 lakh and shared the money. The four had been using the card at petrol pumps too.

Lakshmi Devi informed the private bank from which she had enrolled the card, that she had not yet received it. The bank conducted a check and found that transactions were being made using the card. Following this, the bank informed the courier company. The supervisor of the Adambakkam branch of the courier service, realising that one of his employees had misused the card, filed a complaint with the Adambakkam police on Saturday who arrested Pradeep.
